As a lover of music, there are certain bands that I have a strong passion for. There is a plethora of acts that I really enjoy, and I'm always looking for a new artist to get into. However, there are certain bands that I hold in very high regard. Hearing specific artists feels as though I'm listening to my best friend, as I can connect so much with their style. I literally feel like my favorite band's songs sum up my life as a whole, and they represent who I am as a person. I will always stick with certain bands in my life, and one band that has impacted my life is the Ramones.
Whenever I listen to the Ramones, I truly understand the wonders of simplicity. Much of the Ramones' music follows the same formula, as they use blistering power chords and a stripped down ethos that drives their music. Even though the Ramones aren't complex, their is a magic that floats all over their songs. Whether it's hearing Johnny Ramone busting out his famous guitar riffs or Dee Dee Ramone's reliable basslines, the Ramones always found a way to make the most of their limited instrumental ability. I admired how the Ramones were committed to playing rock music at its basics, and their frank approach is always refreshing for me. The Ramones show that music does not need technicality to be enjoyable, and the modesty of their music was extraordinary at times.
The Ramones were also a joyous band. All of the energy and vigor that I associate with punk rock is clearly demonstrated with the Ramones, but they never forgot about the value of having fun. Even though the Ramones were rambunctious and wild, heir songs always had an amusing center to them. They were sweet and incredibly lively, and they injected punk with a cheerful sound that was full of delight. The Ramones' goofy humor expressed their facetious views of life, and their lighthearted melodies were chirpy and carefree. The Ramones made me feel like I was in a merry-go-round, and I love how they always brought a gleeful mood to punk.
Joey Ramone's vocals are cute and eccentric, as well. His strained vocals portrayed angst in a silly manner, and his inelegant vocals were awkward in a charming way. Joey Ramone's innocent vocals were odd in an the best way possible, and his self-consciousness added an adorable element to the Ramones. I never tire of hearing Joey Ramone stumble through various parts of the world, and he could expresses genuine emotion when the time called for it. The Ramones were blessed with a wonderfully strange vocalist, and Joey Ramone was the perfect front man for the Ramones.
In general, the Ramones are one of my favorite bands. They had a simple sound that was bewitching in its bare-bones nature, and their plain approach to rock music was stark and wonderfully rough. I always have fun when I hear the Ramones, as their music felt like a glorious day in an amusement park. Their songs were full of joy and delight, and Joey Ramone's flawed vocals worked so well for expressing what the Ramones wanted to achieve. The Ramones will always be timeless for me, and I will never tire of their sound.
