I am a daughter which is to say
I am not just a child of two lovers and Venus
but I am a child of narrowed gazes and
pinches in the right wrong places.
No son deserves to love a daughter,
draining honey and gasoline
to make room for watered down whiskey.
The daughter:
She who splinters
her bones because he needs kindling.
She who drains
her blood because he needs kerosene.
She who shreds
her skin because he needs warmth.
Only a daughter could have done that.
