Obstacles

"Most of our obstacles would melt away if, instead of cowering before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them." - Orison Swett Marden

An Obstacle, according to Dictionary.com, is "a thing that blocks one's way or prevents or hinders progress."

Obstacles stink because they create fear and anxiety. They also prevent us from reaching goals. They cause us to become scared and they are just very annoying.

I asked on Facebook what some obstacles were for individuals and I received many unique and even emotional ones:

"Overcoming depression my junior year of college."

"Losing my grandmother in HS."

"Losing my brother 2 years ago."

"This may sound a little strange but mine was overcoming the fear of obstacles themselves. Instead of being forced to take initiative, I was faced with fear and doubt in almost any problem I ever had. Trying to find a solution to any given problem seems rather easy when you're a rational thinker but all I remember was being depressed for 3/4 of my life. Foster care, teen pregnancy, gaining parents but losing one, divorce. Life 's an obstacle itself."

"Breaking off my engagement, ending an emotionally abusive relationship."

"Learning to be more confident, overcoming social anxieties, embracing my weird and loving the "self."

"Bouncing back from my depression and suicide attempts."

Thank you to everyone who shared their most difficult obstacles with me, as I can relate to many.

Obstacles do take a toll on our daily lives and we are faced with them everyday. Whether its as little as trying to get to work on time to overcoming a horrendous disease, obstacles are a powerful struggle for humans. Maybe they make us stronger or are signs that we should keep going for the outcome, who knows.

I can only hope that for myself and for others that I care about overcome their obstacles especially ones that hinder their lives. Life is hard.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
