Baby Driver is the movie that has been in our faces the moment it came out. Not only does it have the incredibly handsome Ansel Elgort, but it comes with a whole never-before-seen use of music. Having a Rotten Tomato score of 98%, it is obvious that this movie is a must see! Elgort’s performance was remarkable, changing from the charming August Waters character to a more grown up sexy criminal Baby.
Given Baby’s hearing condition that was developed after a car crash he suffered as a kid, he has constantly plugged earbuds in. The music is incorporated into the actions that the protagonist Baby uses. To make the story more relatable, the audience can hear the same music as Baby, allowing them to develop a personal relationship with him. It is in sync with him, making the music an elemental part of the storytelling.
The exciting story has the audience on the edge of their seat, wishing a happy ending for Baby. The character of Baby is exceptionally written; he is a nice guy that got tangled up with the bad guys, forcing him to unwillingly make choices that put him and his love ones in risk. Edgar Wright, the author of this compelling drama/action film, did a remarkable job of introducing this new concept of “metaphorical earbuds” the audience plugs in with Baby. The way the music is blend in with the movie made it a thriller ride. Everything is choreographed with the killer sound track of the movie, from the exciting car races to the simple movements the character makes. This movie is a complete masterpiece that involves the audience emotionally, intellectually and astonishingly.
