Welcome to this week's "Obsessed or Depressed", a weekly review of all things happening in the entertainment world. This week I'll be reviewing new music from the likes of Demi Lovato, Fergie, and Twenty One Pilots. Here's how it works (if it isn't obvious by the title): anything I give the stamp of approval received the 'Obsessed' rating. Anything I was utterly disappointed by receives the -- you guessed it -- 'depressed' rating.
First up in music, Demi Lovato's "Body Say" : OBSESSED
I am a huge fan of Demi Lovato and let me tell you, the girl never disappoints. "Body Say" is flawless in it simplicity. The audio is a simple catchy beat, yet when you listen closely to the lyrics, Demi is really spicing things up. Being confident with your sexuality and who are you is something Demi's never been shy about as we've watched her grow from her Disney Channel days and I truly think she is a role model for young girls everywhere. Plus, how can you not love someone with a voice as powerful as hers?
Fergie's "M.I.L.F.$" : DEPRESSED
Let me tell you, Fergie was what I busted moves to at my middle school dance nights. Fergalicious, London Bridge, and Glamorous, were always on repeat on my purple iPod Shuffle (remember those?). Maybe it's because I've moved away from my love for pop music, but "M.I.L.F.$" just wasn't cutting it for me. It was totally a Fergie song in her usual style and she's still looking as fierce as ever, but I just had no desire to hear that song ever again.
Twenty One Pilots's "Heathens" : OBSESSED
I'm proud to say I was one of the 30,000 people who attended Twenty One Pilots concert in Hershey, Pennsylvania on June 19, being part of their biggest crowd yet. I'll be honest, when my sister first tried to turn me on to Twenty One Pilots, I wasn't very impressed and didn't like it too much. The more and more I allowed her to have the aux cord in the car while driving her around, the more their music grew on me. The lyrics are my favorite parts of every one of their songs because they have depth and a message behind them. What message is that? That's for you to decide. "Heathens" was no exception; the song was on the slower side, a bit robotic than others, but also just as intense. It's featured in the upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie alongside the likes of Eminem and Panic! at the Disco.
Tune in next week for my next article in the "Obsessed or Depressed" series and thanks for reading!
