No One Should Be Scared To Be Who They Are

"Be who you are and say how you feel because those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter." Dr. Seuss

No one should be afraid to be who they are around anyone, at any time no matter what. But, here I am scared; scared to tell a million (or in reality maybe 20) computer screens who I am. There are two main reasons that I'm scared:

1) I have been told that who I am is wrong by many people

2) I care too much what people think about me

But today is the day. Today is that day that I am going to no longer hide who I am to anyone. I feel like now is the time because everyone that is super important to me already knows that I am not straight. I don't like using labels because then it confines you to a box. But for all you technical people, I would say that I am bisexual. However, I don't believe bisexual means 50% liking males 50% liking females, but that is for a different article.

I've been scared to tell people this since I was in high school. Now, almost a college graduate, I am okay telling people because I know who I am isn't wrong anymore no matter what anyone in my one-stop-light little town has to say. I also know that life is bigger than caring what people think about you. Will I probably lose friends, followers, and maybe even family over this little announcement? Probably. What really matters is that I am happy being who I am. Shouldn't that be reason enough.

This brings me to my last point. People fear this day from the time they know they aren't straight. They shouldn't. No one should be scared of being whoever they are be it gay, straight, a doctor, a lawyer, Atheist, Catholic, or Jewish. Be who you are on your terms not anyone else's.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
