Let's talk about being present, shall we?
How many times have you been in class and doodling or texting? That's me on the daily. How about when you're in an important meeting and all of a sudden you realize you have been staring into space the past ten minutes? Even better, you're with a group of friends and you hear: " *insert your name* was there, what did I say?" but you have no clue what they're talking about because you were too busy thinking of ways to get out of work tomorrow or what you're eating for dinner.
It's crazy how much we get lost in space, thought and time instead of being present. It's so easy to get sidetracked or forget the importance of the task at hand.
I've gotten plenty of advice this year:
Be Intentional.
Be Genuine.
Get Involved.
But today one of the advisor for my chapter of AOII said to us: "Be where your feet are". Essentially, Be present. If there is a job that you're assigned to, a person you need to connect with, or a place you need to be; your mind and heart should be just where you are in that time. Your focus and attention can go a long way.
It's super important to be present. You never know when it will be your last chance to do something, say what you need to or see the people you love. Being present is more than just living in the moment but more so making it count.
You've heard it millions of times here it is again: Life is too short! You don't have as much time as you think. Even if you do, your loved ones may not. That job you dream of won't always be flourishing. The events and times in your organization won't last forever. The memories you make however, will stay as long as you have breath and then some.
The next test or task in life may be your last. The small moments we share with each aren't to be repeated or made up over time.
Be. Here. Now. you won't regret it and there's nothing to lose.
" Wherever you are be all there " - Jim Elliot.
