Note to Younger Self

Hey young me! It’s you, from the future. You’re probably sitting alone in your room right now stressing over something that won’t matter in the future. I know this cause: been there, done that. Well I’m here to give you a rundown on how things are going to play out over the next couple of years.

Hate to break it to you but high school won’t be anything like East High. You’ll never be a basketball star like Troy Bolton. You’re not even going to make the team but it’s all good cause you’ll eventually figure out ball isn’t life. As for a high school romance, that’s never going to happen either. You’re going to fall for a couple females & you’re going to think each one is “the one” but spoiler alert, none of them are. Oh & you’re going to get fired from your first job. Yeah, high school will be a long awkward four-year process but you’ll graduate one day.

After graduation, you’ll go off to college to major in accounting for two years but you’re going to drop out. Not because you’re not smart enough, to be honest you’re kind of a genius, but because you’ll take a different path. That path is going to be music but you’re going to suck at first. Like you’re going to be really bad but its okay cause everybody is at first.

You’re going to move back home for a year, which will seem backwards but it’s actually the first step into taking control over your future. During that year you’ll gradually get better at making music & form a group with your best friends called “CurbSquad”. Oh yeah, you’re also going to start writing movie scripts. I’m talking Hollywood premiere type films. You’ll see.

Anyway, after that year you’ll move out of mom’s house, finally, & into an apartment with those friends, which is now our current stage. Our next phase is a mystery but we’re going to be ready for it.

So with all this being said, don’t worry too much, man. Keep your head up & never lose that smile. I know it doesn’t seem like it right now but trust me; everything is going to be alright.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
