It Is Normal To Be Scared Of College

College is an exciting time in everyone's life, and as exciting as it may be, it is also extremely frightening for everyone. Here are five reasons why its okay to be afraid to attend college.

1. It is okay to be scared because "everyone" is

Everyone may not say that they are scared, but they are, whether they admit it or not. It is scary, not because there is something to be afraid of, but because it is new, and it is different.

2. It is okay to be scared when you go to college because you will not be as scared of it once you experience it

College will be hard, but it will be fun too. You will make friends that last a lifetime, you will find what path you are meant to be on, and you will become who you are meant to be.

3. It is okay to be scared of college simply because it is not high school

High school was not scary because it was normal. We experienced high school for three years and we knew most of our classmates our whole life, which is why high school was not scary. We were used to it. College is scary because we have to start over. We have to make new friends and step out of our comfort zone.

4. It is okay to be scared to go to college because it is not easy leaving the home you have always known

It is not easy for anyone to just up and leave their home, family, friends, or even pets. Ever. People should be having emotions about leaving their hometown and family because if they did not, then it really was not home for them anyway. Home is where your heart is, therefore, your home is where your family is. You will miss your family when you go to college, but they will still be your family, and you will still get to see them and love them.

5. It is okay to be scared about college because a new chapter in your life is about to begin

College should be kind of scary because it is the first time to truly be out in the world without your parents there to guide you. In college, you will make decisions that will affect your whole life, which is scary, but it is how life is meant to be.

Therefore, college is an extremely scary time for anyone, but it is fun and exciting, it is hard and different, but it is a point at which your life begins. Know that it is okay to be scared to go to college and that you will make it. You will change as a person and you will learn who you are.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
