1. Natasha Bedingfield, “Little Too Much”
It’s that time of year again. All you wanted was to spend some quality time with your loved ones, and now you’re sucked into a heated argument with your uncle about whether Bush really did do 9/11. Sometimes, the vitriol at the dinner can truly be a little too much -- hopefully, Natasha Bedingfield can alleviate some of that heavy feeling.
2. The 1975, “Love Me”
Any song by The 1975 will make you feel like a rock star, especially if you’re in a trashy mood. “Love Me” is the best song to lift up someone’s spirits, just in time for the pumpkin pie. For other “feel-good” songs, check out some other songs on each of their albums.
3. Lily Allen, “Smile”
First of all, Lily Allen is badass. Second of all, the bottom line of this song is to accept yourself for who you are. So, no matter how nasty those family fights may get at the dinner table, in the end, your family is your family. You love each other. You care about each other. Thanksgiving is a time of acceptance, anyway.
4. Childish Gambino, “IV. Sweatpants”
This is the best “f*** you” song anyone could possibly think of. I almost used “Don’t be mad cause I’m doing me better than you doing you” for my senior quote. But, yeah, if you ever need to face that one judgmental aunt who tries to make you feel bad about the trajectory of your life, feel free to blow off some steam with “Sweatpants” after.
5. Phoenix, “Lisztomania”
Writing out the word “Lisztomania” was such a pain because I forgot how to spell “Liszt” for a second (so much for my 14 years of classical piano training). Hopefully, listening to this song can alleviate your pain when you have to defend your political views in front of your extended family this Thursday.
