Technology. It is an ever changing industry. It seems like as soon as you get the newest version of a product, a few months later, a newer, better version has been released. Sometimes it seems like you can never be on the up-and-up. But regardless of that point, technology is something that you probably cannot live without, especially your smartphone.
Just last week, my beautiful iPhone 6 bit the dust. What happened to it is still a mystery; the important part is that it ceased to work. This was an issue. I couldn't get in contact with anybody. I couldn't even check the time. At this point, it is just habit to pick up my phone to check what time it is or absent-mindedly scroll through social media. But I couldn't, and it was really aggravating. I had no idea just how much I used my phone and just how much of a luxury it really was.
So I marched myself to the Apple store. But before I left, I panicked. I had no idea how to get the the Apple store without my GPS, which was on my phone, which didn't work. Not to mention, what if I got lost? I couldn't look it up on the internet, I couldn't call anyone for help. I almost felt helpless. It wasn't the social media that I was missing. I can live without that if need be. It was the little luxuries that you don't realize how much you depend on until they're gone.
With that being said, I challenge you. I challenge you to go one day without your smartphone. This might seem impossible to some, but just remember, cell phones, and especially smartphones, are recent inventions in the grand scheme of things. They were created in most of our lifetimes. People did it in the past; surely they can do it again. But if not, maybe you'll find out you suffer from nomophobia: fear of not having a mobile phone.
