If you don't know who Niykee Heaton is, you should start doing some research. The 20-year-old Chicago native, whose origins reside in her acoustic covers of rap music, is redefining the music scene by producing her own music and doing it her own way. She doesn't care for other people trying to control her and mold her into something she's not, evident by words spoken by Kanye West. I can say I'm a proud member of her NBK (Naturyl Born Killers) movement.
Here is a list of some of Niykee's best songs, in no particular order because how could I possibly rank them?
"Ain’t No Us"
This feels like the most “radio-ready” song of hers. It makes you wanna dance with her quick lyrics and great background music.
"Say Yeah"
A smooth song, perfect for when you’re just chilling around on a summer night with some friends.
"Infinity"
If this song doesn’t make you wanna cry, you might not have a heart. Written in memory of her sister, this song has all the feels, literally every single one. I wish the background “Ooohs” in "Infinity" would play in the background of my day.
"NBK"
The anthem song to her movement. The beat of this song is to die for.
"Woosah"
This is just a really cool song. It’s so different from any song I’ve ever heard and makes me feel way more bad a$$ than I really am.
"Cold War"
Sing this song for anybody who has ever hurt you. Niykee’s vocals are on full display in this one.
"Rolling Stone"
A strong song showing Niykee’s diverse ability to produce a wide range of emotional music.
"Villa"
One of the catchiest instrumentals by Niykee. This song makes me imagine I’m in a James Bond movie in a scene along the Mediterranean coast. Shoutout to LP at the end of this one.
"Bad Intentions"
This was my first taste of Niykee’s original music, and I was immediately hooked. Don’t underestimate her because of her looks and seemingly suggestive titles — her lyrics all have meaning and there’s intelligence behind them.
These are just some of Niykee's amazing songs. There are others like "Kill ‘Em All," "Skintight" and "Sober" that are also some of my favorites. I like Niykee because of her great music but also because she truly cares for her fans, interacting with them on social media (her Snapchat story is the only one I even watch anymore) and occasionally distributing her music for free download. Keep an eye out for Niykee Heaton because she’s only just getting started.
