Ever since Nintendo hosted its highly anticipated Nintendo Switch press conference a few weeks ago, many Nintendo fans were left skeptical if Nintendo’s hybrid console would be able to compete against the competitor consoles while also showcasing Nintendo’s Legacy. As we received more bits of information, fans grew more worried as news came out that communication with other Switch owners may be restricted to a Smartphone App. Another major concern surrounding the Nintendo Switch Press conference was the fact that Nintendo neglected to reveal detailed information regarding the specifications of the Switch. However, after months of rumors and speculations, Nintendo finally release the official specifications for the Nintendo Switch.
Despite the fact that the specifications revealed by Nintendo answer a majority of the questions that Nintendo fans had, there are still a few questions that may not be answered until the Switch’s March 3rd release.
The specifications released by Nintendo revealed that the Nintendo Switch would feature a 6.2 inch LCD Capacitive touch screen, which complies with numerous rumors that were developed during the weeks leading up to the Nintendo Switch press conference. The specifications also revealed that the Switch would utilize a 4310mAh lithium ion battery to maintain power when not placed in the Nintendo Switch dock. This would make the switches internal temperature range from 5 to 35 degrees Celsius. Nintendo also informed fans that the Switch would come with 32 GB of internal memory while also accepting Micro SD, Micro SDHC, and Micro SDXC cards. Nintendo made a note that system update would be required to enable Micro SDXC compatibility. Another confirmed Specification that complies with many of the previous rumors is the fact that the battery of the Nintendo Switch’s battery life would range from 3 to over 6 hours, depending on what game you’re playing. Fans were happy to see that it was confirmed to take only 3 hours to charge the switched battery in sleep mode. However, fans were also slightly disappointed to see that the game card slot would be strictly for Nintendo Switch game cards with no signs of being able to play the titles from the Nintendo 3ds library. All of this confirmed to be 102mm x 239mm x 13.9mm while weighing 297g without the Joy-Con controllers and 398g with the Joy-Con controllers.
One of the more notable specifications confirmed by Nintendo is that the Switch would use an audio jack that the could connect headphones, microphone, and headsets. This was a huge relieve to a lot of Nintendo fans as it clarified that there would be other means of communication other than the Smartphone app.
The Most concerning Specification at this point is the CPU and GPU under the hood. This is because Nintendo only revealed that the Nintendo switch would utilize a custom processor produced by NVidia without giving a detailed description of this custom processor. This means that the Nintendo Fans who plan on purchasing a Switch still don’t know how powerful the system truly is.
While the specification revealed by Nintendo answer many of the question surrounding the Nintendo Switch, there remain a few vague areas that leave Nintendo fan’s concerned. With the launch of the Nintendo Switch within our grasp, it is likely Nintendo is being vague in order to make sure they produce a product that Nintendo fans have been anticipating for years.
