I have been an avid follower of the Game Grumps and Ninja Sex Party for a few years, so it was only natural that I get to see Danny Avidan, Arin Hanson, and Brian Wecht live in concert. My friend hooked me up with tickets when we found out that their Rock Tour was coming to our town. I'm so thankful she got my ticket when I didn't have the money at the time, because tickets sold out in a matter of two hours or less. I was honestly surprised that they had sold out in a short matter of time. I knew Ninja Sex Party was popular, but I had obviously underestimated the determination of their fans.
I eagerly waited until the day they came. I was sure to ask off of work for that day since I personally work third shift. I wasn't going to miss this concert for the world. When the day arrived, we came to the location of their concert two hours before they were to let us in. Luckily our group was 21+, so we were able to wait in the 21+ line where we were able to get into the bar an hour before the concert doors opened. My friends and I played a game of Heads Up on my friend's phone with some other NSP fans who were behind us to pass the time. While we played, I could hear the band next to us doing a sound check. We weren't able to see in since the windows were painted, but at some points I could hear Danny Avidan's voice singing on the mic. It made my heart jump at the realization that I was about to see some people I have admired for a while in real life.
When we made it to the bar, I only found it appropriate to stick with the theme and order a sex on the beach. After we rested our feet from standing in line and got a couple of drinks, we waiting by the doors twenty minutes before they opened. I was eager to try to get the best spot. This venue didn't have seats, and tickets for the show didn't pay for a specific spot for you, so it was a first come first serve type of deal. When the doors opened, I could see that the VIP attendees had already claimed their spot, so I was able to stand about five rows in front of the stage. I was grateful for the good spot, and I was grateful for my age since I was able to at least get in the bar early to get a good head start.
We had about an hour before TWRP was scheduled to open the show, so I stood in my spot without looking at my phone to save the battery for pictures later on. As I waited, I had clusters of people in front of me throughout the hour leave. Some of them were getting claustrophobic while others had other intentions I honestly didn't catch. Either way, by the time the hour had passed, my friend and I had slowly made our way to the front row. I couldn't believe that I had snagged the best spot ever!
TWRP came on after the hour passed. I had personally never heard their music, but I had seen them appear in different Ninja Sex Party music videos. Ten seconds into their performance and I was already blown away at the level of quality and talent that went into their music. I jumped, screamed, and danced for the hour they played. It was definitely a good warm-up for what was ahead.
Here's a photo from their opening performance. This was a photo that I took, and they reuploaded it to their official account! Let's just say I might have screamed when I found out.
They left the stage after they performed their songs. We were then shown an animated Ninja Sex Party concert intro that had never been seen before. After that, TWRP took their places back on the stage and the lights went low. Then TWRP began to play the intro to the NSP theme song, which made the crowd go insane. Before we knew it, we saw two familiar figures come onto the stage. Myself and others around me began to scream at the top of our lungs as Danny and Brian made their way to the front of the stage and began singing the theme song.
The band followed up with other NSP hits, including "Road Trip" and "Dinosaur Laser Fight." We also got to hear a song that had not been released before, including a music video that had never been released. After that, they took a small break and showed us a video of Ninja Brian having a staring contest with you. I can easily say I lost and I'm probably going to be stabbed.
Then came the icing on the cake. Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson came on the stage along with the rest of the band to perform songs from Starbomb, including "Rap Battle: Ryu vs. Ken" and "Mortal Kombat High."
Arin then left the stage for NSP to perform some more songs, but before they did, Danny got a bit serious. He talked about the loss of Chris Cornell, who recently committed suicide and was a huge inspiration to Danny. He then went on to give us a wonderful motivational speech I will never forget:
"Suicide doesn't solve anything. There is no reason to kill yourselves at all, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. We all go through rough patches and life is very, very long. If you're in a rough chapter right now, as we all have been in certain points of our lives, if you cut it off, you don't get to the other chapters where you may find that happiness waiting for you. It's just so, so important that you stick it out. Get help if you need it, and just know that we love you, and we're gonna keep saying that we love you. There's one message that we love to tell people after every show, and this is the way we live our lives and hopefully the way you will as well. That is to love everyone, and forgive everyone, especially yourself."
The entire show was absolutely phenomenal and I am for sure going to see them again whenever they come back. I want to give props to everyone involved in making this tour possible, because you guys have done a seriously amazing job. Thank you to all the members of TWRP, and to Danny, Brian, and Arin for always giving us a good laugh and inspiring us to be the best people we can be.
If you have never heard Ninja Sex Party or TWRP, I highly recommend giving them a listen. Their music can be found on Spotify and YouTube.
