This weekend I went to see Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. The last time I've actually went to the theater to see a movie was when Magic Mike XXL came out. I couldn’t even type the name of that without smiling, yes Joe Manganiello! Is he still married to Sofia Vergara? I'm not sure it would work out between us anyway, he's a Capricorn.
Anyway... Mike and Dave!
Yes, it stars Adam Devine (Mike), I've seen him on Modern Family a couple times as Haley's boyfriend. Along with Zac Efron (Dave), who I never looked at as attractive until now. The movie is loosely based on a true story of two brothers who upon their's father request, are in search of a date for their younger sister Jeannie's wedding.
The duo, known for their frat boy shenanigans and ruining every family event set out to redeem themselves. Deciding that they need "good girls" as dates they begin their search and since you can find everything online, where else do they go but Craigslist! With all the chaotic good that take place after, that's not even the funniest part.
Their ad ends up going viral and catches the eyes of two pill-popping, partying girls-Tatiana and Alice who are just looking for a free vacay and a lot of adventure. Tatiana played by Aubrey Plaza effortlessly becomes your fav with her ruthless schemes and big personality. And Alice played by Anna Kendrick is a heart broken girl who was left at the altar on her big day, lets just say "triggered". These girls steal the show with their wit and "I don't care" attitude by being far from good, but in all the right ways, making this foursome everything you want in the worst way.
The film is filled with "LOLs" and "umm, what are you doing?" moments that easily keeps you entertained. I intially thought it would be something for bros but I was wrong. The movie crosses gender lines and appeals to both sexes, as if Zac Efron wasn't enough... ladies, he was shirtless atleast half the movie, and the women who are even more gorgeous and fun, are really giving the guys a run for their money. My only complaint is that I want a black woman present..as a lead.. hooking with Zac, I deserve that much!!
Other than that, I'm no critic and pretty easy to please. I went in looking for a good time and left satisfied. The movie was funny, I found the delivery to be over the top sometimes but not enough to turn me off. The story was hilarious and left me wondering more about the actual brothers who, come to think about it, should've at least had a cameo in there somewhere! But as far as comedies go, this is something that millennials want to see to get our mind off of politics and the fleeting summer months.
I give it a 7.581946 out of 10
And to think I almost went to go see Nerve *side eyes Emma Roberts*
