Tonight
Let poetry carve love into your bones
And let it flow in your bloodstream
With the wine you drank
On your front porch;
Hold my hand – I am the night
Masks of sanity were never meant for dreamers
Are you a dreamer?
Or are you intimidated?
Let poetry propel your body
Make you walk like you own it
Even when you really don't
A magician will never tell you his secrets
But do you really need them?
You believe in the magnificence of things –
Of the transformative ability of tears
And the wildflowers growing in old friends' back pockets
But faith never came easy to you did it?
And when it did,
You turned away from it
The motions of your hand in empty space
They draw pictures of home
And it smells of love
Just like your trembling fingers, interwoven into hers
The food on the table, it is cold now
Let pain fill your stomach tonight
Hold my hand – I am the night
And I'm here to take you to poetry.
