Football Season Is Over... Now What?

The NFL football season came to an epic conclusion last night with the Chiefs beating the Eagles for the title of 2022/2023 league champions. Now we have 206 days until the start of the next season. So what do we do now with all this time in-between the next kickoff?

If you're a Chiefs fan it's pretty obvious what you're going to be doing. Celebrating the big win and bragging about it to all your friends all offseason long. For Eagles fans? Doing the exact opposite, being down in the dumps and thinking about what could have been if a few things went your way. The teams theirselves get back to the drawing boards and begin their planning and rebuilding to hopefully get to the big game next season.

What about us diehard fans who teams just didn't have it this year? We have the NFL Draft to look forward to in April, so we can start looking at all the draft prospects and dreaming of the of players we want our team to add as they go through the draft process. Free agency and roster changes will be going on all offseason as well. This is another chance for us to research and debate who we think our teams should keep, cut and pursue to build our potential championship roster. But for the most part, us diehard fans countdown each waking second that goes by to get us closer to what we truly desire, training camp and that first preseason game.

What about the casual fans though? The casual fans have it the best out of all of us. Sure they are sad the see the season end and will be excited once the new one begins, but they are aren't dreading each passing day without football. They have the draft to tune in for and will read up on team news every now and then. But casual fans have the rest of basketball and hockey season and the start of baseball season to hold them over. For the casual fans it's just another summer where they have no issues finding something to do to fill the offseason time.

Football season is the best time of the year and it is sad to see it go for all us fans, no matter our fandom. So what do we do during the offseason... we wait.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
