Blackout Poetry is the next big thing in the writing world. The idea behind Blackout Poetry is to take a piece of text, newspaper, old magazine or any piece of writing and select certain words you'd like to emphasize. With these words, you can create a beautiful poem that leaps off of the page. Some people choose to create Blackout Poetry on novels but I prefer to keep my books in the same condition I purchased them in, but that's just me! Here is an example of a simple poem created from another piece of writing:
Up until recently, I didn't like the thought of taking someone else's words and ruining them by covering the page in dark black ink. But now that I have tried Blackout Poetry, I know that us poets are not ruining the work of others, but we're simply building on top of another writer's masterpiece.
Some works of Blackout Poetry are so elaborate, they're visually stunning. It's not always about the poem made from blocking out the rest of the page. Some times the art that covers the page to let the poem shine through is the most amazing creation of all. Here's an example:
Blackout Poetry can also be a very relaxing activity or hobby. I love coming home from a long day of class or work and simply lay down on the couch and create wonderful and whimsical poems from newspapers and magazines. Truthfully, Blackout Poetry helps me to forget about all my stresses in life and lets me focus on only the words on the page.
I love Blackout Poetry for the simple fact that not one poem is the same as another. Even if two people had the same page from a newspaper in front of them, both people would most likely end up creating a different story or poem. It's a truly beautiful art form.
