After the recent release of the newest Star Wars movie, some fans criticized actress Carrie Fisher via social media for not "aging well." Fisher stated that:
"I'm in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that's how easy it is"
So now, along wi h slut shaming and fat shaming, we have age shaming too.
News flash: nobody is perfect!
Women today are expected to have a certain look, and if they don't have it, they must spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to achieve this beauty standard. Money is spent on makeup, personal trainers, plastic surgery, body-slimming clothing, and the list goes on and on.
After years of trying to look perfect, once women hit middle-age they try to look younger as if it were a crime to age.
Age isn't something that should be discouraged, it should be something that is embraced with open arms because it is a natural part of life. We can't hide from it forever.
Why are we spending thousands of dollars on surgery to remove laugh lines? Those wrinkles are physical proof that you have enjoyed a happy life. Embrace it.
Stretch marks? Those aren't ugly. Those are proof that you have grown and show how amazing the human body is.
Each of your scars have a story to tell.
The things that society tells us are imperfections and the things they tell us to hide are things we should embrace. These are the parts of us that make each one of us different and unique, and are proof that we have lived our life rather than just existing. We need to learn how to be confident in the body we are given, because if you can't be confident, you won't be living your life to the fullest potential.
Nobody is perfect to society, but everyone is perfect to Him. Psalm 139 verse 14 reads:
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well"
Even if you don't fit into the mold of what society views as perfect, hold your head up high and know that it's okay, because the Creator of the universe thinks so, and don't you think His opinion is a little more valid? Society's view of perfection and #goals is based on earthly possessions that will not last. Don't let your worth and confidence be struck down because your brows aren't "on fleek", you don't have as many followers on social media as your popular friend, or whatever it may be that makes you feel inferior.
Each and every person is beautiful. You are worthy. You are perfect to Him.
Yes, you ARE perfect!
Live your life in a way that will be pleasing to Him. Go out and live a more confident life where your goals are to reach His expectations rather than societies'. Pray for confidence if you need to, He will listen.
If we are constantly striving for an unreachable goal (society's standards for women), we will be unable to live a life where we are genuinely happy with ourselves and the world around us.
Love yourself because He loved you first. Once you learn to accept that you will never be perfect to society, but will always be perfect to Him, then your life will be much happier. I guarantee it.
