To my friends I met my freshman year of college,
First off, I want to start off with saying how crazy it is how close you can get to people in college after only knowing them a few short weeks. Whether being in the dorm with these people or sitting next to them in your large lecture class, bonds become so important for social and academic reasons. Second off, I want to say thank you to the close group of friends I have made so far in my freshman year of college. As an out of state student and coming to school not knowing anyone else, finding a close group of friends was something that was very important to me.
Thankfully, I found such a group of friends and despite only knowing them a short period of time, it seems like I have known them so much longer than I have in reality. I want to take this time to thank them for all they have done for me in just a few short weeks. Thank you for introducing yourselves to me the first week when I was too shy to do so. Thank you for making my first birthday away from home a little less hard by coming into my room at midnight to sing happy birthday, getting me cupcakes and making the cafeteria sing to me (despite how embarrassed I was at the time). Thank you for doing late night food runs with me and helping me try and keep the freshman fifteen off after those late night food runs by going to the gym (even those 6:30 am workout classes). All the adventures that we have had, like going to a party for the first time or trying to figure out where the place is where we can pet puppies, will always be something to remember.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate you comforting me when I am home sick, and listening to the same stories of what happened to me that one time before you knew me, because you know it helps to reminisce and talk about it, even if I am repetitive.Thank you for not listening to me when I say I want to be by myself, and then still staying with me because you want to know what is the matter. Not only did you help me when I was home sick, but took care of me the first time I had a cold away from home.
I even appreciate you making me do my homework and keeping me on track because you know I'm going to stress out later. Studying is so much better when we all work together, and sometimes, my friends try and learn what I'm learning so they can help me better. If reading more information or going over my vocabulary words with me for hours on end doesn't show true friendship, I don't know what does.
So overall, I know we just met about two months ago, but I just wanted to let you know that you have made these past two months so much better than I expected with many laughs, some tears, a whole lot of snacks. No matter what happens over the course of the year, or even thinnest four years, I will always appreciate you helping me start of college in a new state on the right foot and helping me learn so much about myself and get through this new transition in my life.
Love,
Your new friend who will surely be a life-long one
