“New Year, New Me!”
OK…let’s be real. Yes, it is a new calendar year, but you are still the same person. The outlandish promises people make to themselves beginning at midnight on January 1st are almost always broken within the next day or two.
Ringing in a new year is exciting and it offers people a chance to reset and better themselves! Whether the goals are to be healthier, curse less, or strive to improve in school, they need to be acted upon to be considered “New Year's resolutions.” It is key to stick with them to “resolve” the previous issues.
January is the kick start of the next 365 days. It sounds like plenty of time to accomplish the list of aims but, sadly, those days pass in a blink of an eye. Being a college student, I have found that routines are key to staying on top of that list. Time flies, and to ensure that resolutions are accomplished, a routine is vital. The idea of a routine seems drab, but it is the key to being productive in the new year.
Every January 1st afternoon, a person in my family swears on his New Year's Day meal of black eyed peas and cabbage that the upcoming days will be filled with luck, prosperity, and happiness. Although I usually giggle at his speech, this optimism lights up the room and is a fantastic way to begin a new chapter.
The New Year offers people a clean slate. However, to avoid repeating the mistakes of last year, consciously make these resolutions and stick with them. A year from now, it will be satisfying to feel that positive lifestyle changes have been made and you will actually feel like a new and improved person.
