A Short List of Things We Need to Start Doing as a Country

Here is a "short" list of the New Years resolutions the United States of America needs to make in 2017.

1. Civil Rights.

It's pretty sad that has to be a resolution, since Native Americans still are being pushed around, Muslim women are being told how to dress, women are still below men (just because), the government wants to control women's bodies, African Americans are being killed while unarmed... should I keep going? Because that's just a short list of people who are having their civil rights violated.

2. Government: Stop breaking your own laws.

It's pretty sad that has to be a resolution, since America's government is the "best", right?

Let's start with not violating Native American treaties of land with oil pipelines that are bound to blow and pollute our water. You know, since one 2 miles away from Standing Rock already did blow, and spilled about 170,000 gallons of oil into Little Missouri River.

3. Racism is bad. Stop continuing it.

It's sad that our President-Elect has spiked hate crimes and encouraged people to hurt others. We are all citizens of the USA (minus those who came here to live a better life in the land of the free). It doesn't matter if you are white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Native, African, European, etc. We are all humans. That should be the end of it.

4. America is NOT a Christian Nation and I am sick and tired of having to say that!

NO! Our founding fathers may have been Christian. But why did we leave the UK? To escape being forced to go to church and believe certain views. We wanted to be free and believe what we wanted.

SO! Stop yelling at people who aren't Christians. There are so many different religions. To name a few: Islam, Judaism, Hindu, Buddhism, Sikhism, Shinto, Neo-Paganism, etc.

So stop enforcing your religious beliefs on others if YOU want to have religious freedom.

5. English is not the official language of the USA.

The next time you see someone speaking another language, don't tell them to go back to their country.

Because they are probably home already.

6. Stop sexualizing women.

It's okay to see a hot chick with cleavage, but HEAVEN MERCY if you see a mom breastfeeding her baby.

It's okay to see a hot chick with a short skirt on, but when she gets raped, its her fault, because of her clothing.

It's not okay to be plus size. Right? Because guys want to see a skinny chick with a nice body, not a fat girl with her lumps showing. It doesn't look nice.

Women have to wear makeup to look beautiful.

But when you take her on a first date, make sure you go swimming to see what she really looks like. Because you don't want to date someone who is ugly.

Women are just as important as men are. It is so sad to see that America STILL treats women horribly. From unfair wages to rapists getting free because it was the girls fault.

America needs to step up.

7. The Confederate Flag is historic, but not something you should be proud of.

The Confederate Flag stands for the following: slavery.

Oh. I thought there was something else it stood for...

NOPE.

Just slavery. The south is still sad they didn't win and keep their slaves, so they fly these flags and call African Americans the N word.

How American. How Patriotic.

Funny how Germany banned the Nazi flag, because they are embarrassed by their mistakes.

We embrace them.

8. Climate Change is REAL. Proven by AMERICAN Scientists. Not made up by China.

I forgot that many people have more faith in a fake person who lives in the sky than actual evidence of something.

Burn. But very true.

We have shown you the facts and the evidence and the proof.

So let's us energy efficient fuel like solar, wind, and water, and stop polluting our Earth like we do every day.

And just so you know, just because it's snowing right now doesn't mean climate change isn't real. It just means the seasons are happening like they are supposed to. But our ice caps are STILL MELTING.

SCIENCE.

9. Reverse racism does not exist.

I know! White people gather around! I know you feel so sad because people AREN'T out picking on you. So any chance you can to show a black person calling you a cracker will prove they aren't the only victims!

Stop.

Just stop. That's all I can really say.

White people have so many privileges. I know. I am white and I hate knowing I get more because of my color.

We need to STOP.

There are so many other things I could put on this list.

But for right now, I think this would be a good start.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
