We have all heard of New Year's resolutions, but what about the new semester? I don't know about you, but every semester, I learn from my mistakes and try to correct them. To be completely honest, it took me awhile to learn how to properly study, but finally, I got the hang of it through learning from past semester mistakes. This semester I made a list of some new semester resolutions to try and strive for that 4.0 (hopefully!).

1. No phones in class

In a huge lecture hall, it is so easy to get distracted by your phone, especially if it's just sitting on your desk and suddenly your BFF Snapchats you. On the first day of this semester, I put my phone in my bag and just listened to the professor, no distractions. And what better feeling than looking at your phone after an hour and a half to see a bunch of texts? Or no texts at all -- depends on the day.

2. Go to office hours

I always put this off. If I'm struggling in class, sometimes I feel too embarrassed to ask a question or too intimidated to ask the professors. Here's a tip: Professors are people too! They aren't scary. They are here to help us!!!! Go to office hours! It's good to get your name out there because it's so easy to get lost in those big lecture halls!

3. Rewrite notes by hand

GiphyOkay, again, time-consuming, BUT your health is important! It is not healthy to sit and study all day. You have to sometimes let that brain rest and let your body move! Even if it is just once a week to start! Take a break from that studying.

4. Go to the gym at least once a week

5. Talk to someone new in each class

Ah, scary. It's so different from when you're in high school and the classes are small. Honestly, it seems intimidating, but everyone is in the same boat you are in. Sit next to someone and don't be afraid to start a conversation (not in the middle of the lecture because someone did this to me once, not even in a hushed tone, and I was very embarrassed.) This is especially good if you don't have a friend in the class because what if you need to share your ideas with someone or have a question about a confusing topic?

So here is my list of new semester resolutions and I hope you find them helpful as well. Good luck with all your classes and remember to make time for yourself!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
