Spring semester, in my opinion, is a lot more difficult than fall semester. For one thing, the weather is drastically different. The cold and snow urges me to take more naps rather than study, encourages me to order unhealthy take-out rather than walk to the dining hall to eat something semi-healthy, and persuades me to not take the walk in the below-freezing weather to the gym. It's hard to stay focused and healthy in the winter, which makes spring semester so much more difficult to power through.
However, I won't let all of that stop me from succeeding. Although it's a lot easier to skip class after waking up and seeing the blizzard outside my window, knowing my bed is warm and comfortable, I will encourage myself to get up, get dressed and go to class. I will remind myself of the anxious feeling I get looking at grades at the end of semester to motivate myself to study harder, knowing that I'll want to see straight A's on WebAdvisor once finals' week ends.
Not only will I focus on school, I will also focus on my mental health. I'll remind myself to get out and have fun on the weekends. I will embrace the winter this year by venturing out into the snow to sled, snowboard and ski with my friends. I'll find more time to do fun things around campus along with inside the dorms like movie nights, Netflix marathons and spa nights with my friends. I refuse to let the bad weather and the overwhelming amount of schoolwork stop me from making memories in the few short years I have left in college.
These are my goals for the new semester. What are yours? The new semester allows for a fresh start for everyone. So take advantage of it. Have fun, study hard and make it a good one.
