Yet another year has flown by. As I grow up, I realize that the years go by faster and faster. We start our new year with so many goals in mind, sometimes the same ones each year. One that I notice I always put is "lose weight." Now, I am by no means overweight nor do I eat extremely unhealthy. When January rolls around, I get my butt back to the gym and find myself walking around searching for a machine that is not in use. It's great to see so many people trying to get into shape, but week by week, the population dwindles back down to the regulars plus some, and we go back to our normal routines. Why? Because there is always next year.
Rather than going from zero to 100, we need to learn more about our bodies. You cannot expect to go from never working out to attempting to run every single day. When your body cannot keep up, you give up, and what is the point in that. This year, take it easy. Do some research and create a plan. You want to work out? Take some classes or go to the gym three times a week. You want to be healthier? Slowly start to cut down on junk food or those extra comforting carbs. This is not even my main point for writing.
This year I challenge you to love yourself. This is a resolution that no one even thinks about, but can make all the difference. Maybe you do eat healthy and work out when you can. Sometimes you feel like nothing is working. If you are being healthy and active then stop worrying about that reflection you see in the mirror. Be proud of every curve. Own the figure you have. Confidence is the most beautiful thing a person can be. I spent years hating the body I felt "trapped" in. No matter how much I worked out, no matter how many salads I ate or meals I skipped, nothing made me feel "thin."
But we don't see what other people see. We need to stop judging ourselves and be happy for our health. So please, this year smile at yourself. Continue working to be the best person you can be. If others don't like it, then leave the negativity out of your life. Loving yourself is a free new year's resolution, but I swear you will feel the difference.
