A New Mother Who Needs a Talkin' To

I am sacrificing a full face of makeup today to write this article about what I just heard on Good Morning America while getting ready for the day. A very recent mom wrote an article about how terrible she felt after giving birth and how awful her body looked after being pregnant. She claims she is truly blessed to have a healthy baby and loves him very much, but still is so distraught about the way her body looks now.

Are you kidding me? I really can’t believe she has the nerve to write an article like this. What she may not realize is, she’s EXTREMELY lucky to be able to even become pregnant, have a pregnancy with no complications and as a result, have a beautiful, healthy child. A lot of women can’t even become pregnant these days.

I guess I’m so frustrated by this article and segment in Good Morning America because I don’t understand why she can’t stop complaining and go do something about it. If she is so upset by the way her body looks, go work out! It’s called exercise. It’s called a gym. It's called eating healthy. She needs motivation to change her body since it is affecting her life this much.

I understand being a new mother is hard and time consuming, but she definitely had enough time to write a very ridiculous article and post it online for everyone to see. Why doesn’t she use that time and put it towards something productive, like a work out, and spare us with the sob story. My mother was pregnant five times with my brothers and myself and she is a prime example of what a strong, smart woman would be. She worked out after every baby and she looks great today, 22 years later after giving birth to me, her last child. Honestly, she eats better and works out more than I do. My mom is hot, and wears a size smaller than me.

I just feel like the whining needs to stop, if you are really upset about how many clothes in your closet don’t fit, maybe go do something about it. Be a strong, confident woman and go do something about it.

This article was written out of anger at 8:33 AM on Monday morning, August 25, 2014.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
