Damn, Marvel! Back at it again with the TV shows.
Tasteless jokes and dank memes aside Marvel recently announced that they are working on a show revolving around the heroes Cloak and Dagger. The straight-to-series show will premiere on Freeform (formerly ABC Family). There are no specifics for the reveal as there is no writer set for the show yet.
So, what is the show about? “Cloak and Dagger” will be a superhero love story (set to be infinitely better than “Twilight”) focused on these runaway teenagers who recently acquire powers.
Who are Cloak and Dagger and why haven’t you heard of them? Tyrone Johnson (Cloak) is from Boston and ran away when his strong stutter stopped him from stopping a cop who fatally mistook his friend for criminal and Tandy Bowen (Dagger) is a rich 16 year old from Ohio whose mother paid more attention to her career, causing Tandy to leave. Both are lower level heroes that are stronger together as opposed to being apart and debuted together in 1982. Originally side characters for Spider-Man they received their own series in 1983. Cloak and Dagger were kidnapped and given a new synthetic heroin (this was the 80s) that usually killed users. Their abilities are light and dark based, where Cloak can become intangible, teleport and access the Darkforce Dimension. Dagger literally creates daggers of light that can drain life forces, purge addictions and heal injuries, and they use them as a war on drugs. Cloak being engulfed in darkness pains him with a hunger for light that is quelled when Dagger is in his presence.
The heroes didn’t start as such, as they were vigilantes at the start, murdering the people who wronged them and on occasion (when Cloak gets uncontrollably hungry in Dagger’s absence) absorbing all criminals he crosses.
Keep your ears peeled for more Marvel news because 2016 has definitely been Marvel’s year.
