It's the start of a new era at La Salle University, and we're living through it. The image and brand of the university are being reimagined and built around us. It's easy to forget how exciting this is because of how frustrating the construction can be. Despite this, I think the Brand Launch party last week refreshed the excitement of the new La Salle.
The biggest thing to come out of the Brand Launch was our new tagline. For years, La Salle's slogan has been "Never Stop Exploring." Which was fitting, seeing as how our mascot is the Explorer. However, as many things do, this slogan has gotten a little stale. There's only so many graduation speeches that can end with "remember, never stop exploring," before it gets tired and loses its meaning.
To revitalize our image as a University, the school board decided to update our tagline. They kept it recognizable but changed it up to make it new and exciting again. "Explorers are Never Lost" is the end result of their efforts, and it has been met with mixed though mostly positive reviews. There are some who don't see why this change was necessary, or think that it hurts tradition. For every person who feels that way, though, there is someone who thinks the reenvisioning of the slogan is exactly what the University needs right now.
One thing that everyone at La Salle can agree on, however, is that the new commercial is fantastic. It has all the makings of a short film promoting all the things students can do within their experience at La Salle. It highlights what students can do when moving forward into the 'real world' with a Lasallian degree. It shows off our beautiful campus and the amazing city we live in. Overall, the commercial is amazing and has the potential to do great things for La Salle. I, for one, can't wait to see what these changes bring to La Salle.
However, every time I hear the new tagline, I can't help but think of those La Salle students who got lost in Kentucky during their Habitat For Humanity project a few years ago. Whoops.
