On April 23rd at 9 p.m., Beyonce came out with her new visual album entitled "Lemonade", and it brings a whole new meaning to the word. If you tried Googling it now, the refreshing lemony drink you sold as child most likely won't be the first thing to show up. Like most of the work Yonce has done recently, this album came completely out of nowhere. Not only that, but a huge revelation came along with. Jay-Z did indeed cheat on Beyonce. HOLY SH*T, AM I RIGHT?? She is literally referred to as Queen B. If that's not a hint to the kind of woman she is Jay-Z, I don't know what is. The album itself is sort of a big F U for this enormous mistake but also an ode to Beyonce's family, heritage, and girl power state of mind.
The "visual album" a.k.a movie, starts off with Queen B on a stage and then in a corn field solemnly lurking in a black hoodie. Good start, right?
Formation was actually the first single off the album which everyone now realizes, but it doesn't come in until the very end of the album. This song alone caused a huge uproar in America. Especially when she performed it at the Super Bowl.
(Side Note: Whoever does the PR for Beyonce deserves an award.)
Now we have AN ENTIRE ALBUM. So many people have already picked apart every lyric of every song. How do we know that Jay-Z has been the dirty behind Beyonce's back?
Exhibit A:
"We just got to let it beLet it be, let it be, let it be, let it be baby
Uh, this is your final warning
You know I give you life
If you try this shit again
(You gon' lose your wife...)"
What? Who? Warning?
Yes. That actually just happened.
Exhibit B:
"My daddy warned me about men like youHe said baby girl he's playing you
He's playing you."
We've only known about one man in Beyonce's life besides her dad, so I think we can all assume she's talking about Jay-Z.
The concept of Lemonade as a title comes from her (I'm assuming) grandmother's homemade lemonade. In the film she describes the entire recipe and all of the instructions which I'm sure her grandmother wasn't too pleased about. If someone gave away my secret recipe I'd go berserk on them.
The film itself was really well done because Yonce doesn't play around when it comes to quality. However, her message about feminism is a little skewed because most of her songs revolve around women using their bodies to have power over a man. Queen B also stated the fact that women that have their own money can take away the power of a man. This is absolutely true. However, she should touch on the fact that you shouldn't let a man have control over you to begin with.
Love you Queen B, but sex and money isn't everything. Also, deepest apologies for your husband cheating on you.
