1. "Idaho" by Emily Ruskovich
"Idaho" tells the story of Ann who is the second wife to her husband Wade. As her husband begins to lose his memory, Ann tries to piece together the mystery that is Wade's first marriage and his first wife and children. She uncovers a shocking secret, and tries to understand the history of Wade and his first wife, Jenny. The story is tumultuous and heartfelt, and presents the narrative from various view points. It will have you on the edge of your seat, a testament to the writing talent of Emily Ruskovich, O. Henry award winning author, and it becomes available on January 3rd.
2. "The Spy" by Paulo Coelho
While this book has already been released (on November 22nd), it's still relatively new. Paulo Coelho, author of "The Alchemist," tells the story of the historical figure Mata Hari. Mata Hari was accused of being a spy in the First World War, but the actual truth behind this claim is kind of fuzzy. Coelho follows Hari's story from a penniless girl to the most celebrated courtesan and entertainer of the era with his effortless prose and powerful storytelling.
3. "A Book of American Martyrs" by Joyce Carol Oates
Joyce Carol Oates is a master of the craft and this new book is expected to be no exception. Oates tells the tale of a fundamentalist Evangelical who kills an abortion doctor, believing he is doing God's work. Oates does not approach this wildly polarizing issue as purely black or white, but displays the grey area in between. She shows how this act shakes the community and the lives that it affects on both sides. The novel hits the shelves on February 7.
4. "Abstract Heart" by J. Iron Word
Iron Word's first novel arrives in a shroud of mystery. This book is a collection of poems describing life in a heartfelt and emotional way. J. Iron Word has lived a full life prior to the publication of the book, according to the author's information on Amazon. He is a father and has had a full career, and this book is influenced by his life. It is released on December 25, and is set to be a highly influential book for the new year.
