5 Ways Neverland And College Are The Exact Same Thing
peter pan, neverland

Neverland is a magical place where the characters from "Peter Pan" feel free to do what ever they want and be who ever they want. I know what you're thinking "I wish I lived in Neverland!", trust me, I do too. Although college isn't as magical a place as Neverland, there are some big similarities between the two! Here are the five ways in which I compare the two!

1. We can be who ever we want to be!

College students, the lost boys, Peter Pan, and Wendy alike can all be who they want to be. Neverland is a far away place where you can start a new life. As a college student, you can choose to make changes and be whatever person you want. Whether that means changing your hair color, your wardrobe, making all new friends, or picking up new hobbies. New college students have the allowance to make any change they wish to see in their future selves.

2. There are no parents.

In college, unfortunately, your parents can’t be there hold your hand every step of the way. You are put into a situation where you must make your own decisions, whether it be about which classes to take, which sorority/fraternity to join, or what nights to go out and which nights to stay in and study for class. All of the characters in Peter Pan are faced with decision making as well. An example would be when Wendy decides if she should try flying with Peter. She decides to the to have the faith, trust, and pixie dust. Wendy couldn’t turn to her Mother and ask whether it was okay to fly through the air with a boy who lives on a magical island and claims to have never grown up. Wendy makes the decision on her own.

3. You must learn to share a space.

In college, you have roommates. On the island of Neverland...you also have roommates! Though your roommates may not be quite as crazy, smelly, or messy as any of the lost boys - it can still be hard to share a space with someone new. Make sure to set rules that are a little more clear than the rules Peter sets with the boys.

4. We are all a little bit lost!

We know what we want to do, just as much as the lost boys knew they wanted to find the hidden treasure with Peter Pan. The only problem is that we don’t know exactly how to get there, which is why we are in college! Just remember that being lost, doesn't mean that you are alone!

5. You have a lot of freedom.

Lastly, as college students you are given all of the freedom in the world. Everyone in Neverland is free. Free to fly using pixie dust, swim with the mermaids, or even fight Captain Hook. Take advantage of your freedom and don’t hold anything back. Discover new passions, meet new people, learn, and let yourself fall because you know that you have the strength to get back up.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
