Never Give Up In College

Throughout your college career, you encounter many obstacles and sometimes you want to drop out of college. Sometimes in the classroom there is that one question on a test that you do not know the answer to, so you skip it and move on to the next question. Many college students have days where they just want to give up on everything because college is just too hard for them and they don't want to disappoint anyone. Quitting should not be an an option for anyone. So here are five encouraging words you should think of when you get to a breaking point.

1. Stay Positive

It always good to stay positive throughout college as well as throughout your life. When you think negative or have negative energy, that can take a toll on you and put you in a mood. Staying positive helps you to keep going and tune out the negative things.

2. Be Encouraged

Every college student should be encouraged no matter what happens. Even if there is a bad situation you come across, there is always some type of encouragement that can come out of it. There are many things that can encourage you, but you have to determine what those things are. Be encouraged to do bigger and better things to finish your college days strong.

3. Believe in Yourself

In college, you should always believe in yourself to achieve what you want to achieve. You should never doubt yourself, because that is what makes you want to give up. Many college students do not believe in themselves to succeed when going through hard times, and that should not happen. They should always believe that they can achieve anything in life without having to please someone else.

4. Stay Focused

A lot of college students struggle with staying focused because they have so much going on. They get distracted easily or just need a break from all the schoolwork. If you remain focused on what needs to be done, then you will have a better chance of having time to do other activities. Having that focused mindset gets your brain going and succeeding throughout those four years of college.

5. Be in Control

Take control of how you handle certain situations when it comes to obstacles in college. Do not listen to someone else if you are not comfortable taking their advice. Listening to others can put you in a position that is not for your own good. When you are in control, you make the right decision that is best for you and not for anyone else.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
