Stand-Up comedy is a grossly unappreciated art form, and also one of the most precious resources Netflix has to offer. I have dedicated a significant amount of my time watching an endless list of comedians (I've seen certain specials an inordinately large amount of times over the years). Whether you're only a beginner or comedy connoisseur, I have compiled this list of must-watch specials to add to your Netflix queue that are sure to be entertaining, to say the least/
Louis C.K. - "Live at the Beacon Theater"
Louis C.K. is one of the realest people on the face of the planet. He is never afraid to tell it like it is, and no matter how mildly offensive he may be, we as an audience can't help but laugh at his frank and accurate observations about life.
Aziz Ansari – "Buried Alive"
Aziz Ansari plays the hilarious Tom Haverford in “Parks and Recreation”, and thankfully, his on-stage personality is much the same. The amount of enthusiasm and energy he has for every topic he discusses makes his comedy endlessly entertaining.
Mike Birbiglia – "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend"
I feel Mike Birbiglia is the physical embodiment of every awkward situation I've ever been in. His intricate stories intertwine together to tell the long saga of his romantic experiences and how he got where he is today.
John Mulaney – "New in Town"
Though he hasn't released much material, John Mulaney is by far my favorite comedian on the face of the planet. "New in Town" was his first widely distributed special, and it displays his superior storytelling ability and comedic timing.
Chelsea Peretti – "One of the Greats"
Chelsea Peretti is a pro at poking fun at all the ridiculous aspects of current society. In a world centered around social media and celebrities, it's refreshing to hear someone who is going against the grain and calling things out .
Bo Burnham – "what."
Considering I'm such a hardcore music lover, I really enjoy how Bo Burnham does a flawless job of lending music and comedy together to perform thoughtful and hilariously raunchy pieces. His energy and sarcasm have you at the edge of your seat with literally no idea of what to expect next.
Nick Offerman – "American Ham"
Much like Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman is a lot like his character, Ron Swanson, on Parks and Recreation. Wearing an amazing American Flag button up shirt and donning an acoustic guitar, he delivers frank comedy that is too on point not to appreciate.
Demetri Martin – "Live" (At the Time)
Demetri Martin is the king of observational comedy. Everything he talks about is completely relatable, but his jokes make you realize how odd some of these commonplace occurrences can really be.
Marc Maron – Thinky Pain
Marc Maron is the cool dad you always wanted. He's been a comedian for ages, and in his 50s now, he tells jokes about his really interesting life experiences. His slightly disgruntled, middle-aged attitude results in hilarious opinions and observations.
Zach Galifianakis – Live at the Purple Onion
You can tell Zach Galifianakis is completely flying by the seat of his pants in this special, and the humor that ensues as a result is iconic. This special includes heckling the audience and some behind the scenes footage of him on tour, which is equally as entertaining as his off-the-wall comedy.
