I know better than anyone that looking for a movie to watch on Netflix can be a hassle. So here’s a good underrated movie from every main category on Netflix. Whatever the movie night you have planned may be, despite the ratings, these movies will have a good story, a lot of action, or at least will be so bad that it’s comedic and fun to make fun of with your friends. And before you expect all A-list movies remember this is for movies you probably haven’t seen or heard of because of course xXx and Django are amazing movies but chances are you’ve seen it before.

Action Adventure:

Get the Gringo.

Rated R. 1hr 36mins. Mel Gibson plays Driver a career criminal finally apprehended by Mexican authorities and placed in prison. The only way for him to survive is with the help of a 10 year old boy who needs his help more than he thinks.

Anime:


Berserk: The Golden Age Arc 1- The Egg of the King

Rated R. 1hr 16 mins. For three years, Guts believed his mission was to pursue Griffith's dream together with him. But in order to become Griffith's equal and truly be called his friend, Guts realizes he will have to leave the Band of the Hawk. But as he make his decision the Band of the Hawk faces a greater rising conflict.

Rated PG. 1 hr 23 mins. Tim Allen plays Jack, a washed up superhero who was tricked into training the next generation of superheroes, a rag tag group of minors with incredible powers.

Classics:


The Warriors

Rated R. 1hr 32mins. In 1979 one of New York's top gangs the Warriors are falsely accused of killing gang lord Cyrus during a meeting on neutral ground. The story follows them as the battle rival gangs as they defend their honor and try to make it back to their own turf alive.

Comedies:


Small Soldiers.

Rated PG-13. 1 hr 50mins. When military manufactured computer chips are accidentally installed in a line of action figures, they end up with minds of their own and invade an Ohio suburb to do battle with another line of toys that have the same chips and the humans who protect them.

Cult Movies:


The ABC’s of Death

NR. 2hr 9min. A 26 Chapter Anthology where 26 directors each made a short film about death surrounding their designated letter. The story line and movie style varies from letter to letter as each director tells a new story.

Doumentaries:


Sleepwalkers Who Kill

Rated TV-14. 45mins. This documentary tells the story of people with a rare condition that causes them to be unwilling pawns in murderous activities whilst sleeping.

Drama:


Bonnie and Clyde

Rated TV-14. 2hr 54mins. Based on the infamous true story of Clyde Barrow, a charismatic convicted armed robber who sweeps Bonnie Parker, an impressionable, petite, small-town waitress, off her feet, and the two embark on one of the most infamous bank-robbing sprees in history.

Religious/Spiritual:


Any Veggie Tales movie

Rated TV-Y. 30 mins-1hr 25mins. Veggie Tales is the singing Vegetable show of my childhood. Even adults love the Christian Bible stories told by vegetables.

LGBT Movies:


G.B.F.

Rated R. 1hr 32mins. Closet teenager Tanner is outed by his classmates and suddenly becomes the center of attention for the three most popular girls in school. But not as a sexual conquest as their first “gay best friend.” The sudden popularity from his sexuality creates rifts in his relationships with his real friends as he comes to term with his identity.

Horror:


Would You Rather

NR. 1hr 33mins. Britany Snow plays Iris, a young woman lured into a competition by a wealthy beneficiary in order to help pay for her ailing brother’s medical bills and then some. However the competition is worth more than she imagined as the night takes several drastic turns.

Independent:


The Kids are All Right

Rated R. 1hr 46mins. This all-star cast feature Julienne Moore and Anette Benning as a lesbian couple trying to maintain their family. However when the children bring their biological father, Mark Ruffalo, into the situation conflict and tensions rise between the family.

International:


Battle Royale

NR. 1hr 54mins. In a future society every year Japanese officials choose forty-two freshman and are given three days to fight each other to the death. At the end of the three days only one must stand or all remaining survivors will be killed.

Biggie & Tupac

Rated R. 1hr 48mins. This documentary focuses on the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls and the East Coast/West Coast, hip-hop/rap rivalry that culminated in late 1996 and early 1997.

Musicals:

Rent

Rated PG-13. 2hr 15mins. This film adaptation of the hit Broadway Musical Rent depicts life of New Yorkers as they come to terms with the reality of working and living in New York, while others deal with the reality of the AIDs epidemic.

Romance:

Another Gay Movie

NR. 1hr 32mins. Four gay teenagers make a pact to lose their virginity before college. In a variety of outrageous antics the boys try to seduce the men of their dreams and get into hilarious mishaps as with any good romantic comedy.

Sci-fi:

Stardust

Rated PG-13. 2hr 7mins. A young man promises his beloved that he will venture into a magical land to retrieve a fallen star for her only to find that the star is actually a young woman. During his journey he encounters various magical creatures including three witches that want to devour the heart of the fallen star in order to stay young forever.

Sports:

Hardball

Rated PG-13. 1hr 46mins. Keanu Reeves plays a down on his luck scalper that agrees to coach a team of ragtag kids in baseball in order to pay off a debt. But as he begins to coach the ghosts of his past begin to cause trouble for his future.

Talk Shows/Standup:

Eddie Murphy Raw

Rated R. 1hr 33mins. A bit dated but hilarious as Eddie Murphy does what he does best, tell jokes.

Thrillers:

Evidence

NR. 1hr 34mins. When a road trip goes wrong a killer goes on a rampage killing the vacationers. The only evidence left is two recordings from video cameras carried by the victims at the time of the murders. We watch the horrific events of the night with the detectives as the try to crack the case before the killer gets away.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day.
