Emma Roberts and Dave Franco starred in the new summer hit "Nerve," a movie about dares, taking chances and getting into tricky situations.
The movie is filmed around Venus Delmonico, or Vee, who is on the safer side of things. She is a quiet senior who hides in the shadow of her best friend, Sydney, and doesn’t dare talk to her crush. And even though she got into her dream college, she doesn’t tell her mom in fear of leaving her mother alone after Vee’s brother died.
Sydney starts to play a game called Nerve, where players perform dares for money while watchers pay to watch the dares and all of the dares are created by the watchers. Sydney plays the game and encourages Vee to join as a player. After a football game where Sydney moons the stadium for a dare, Sydney and Vee hang out at a diner. Vee's crush happens to be there and Sydney tells him that Vee is interested in him. Vee is turned down, so she bikes home and joins Nerve as a player.
She is dared to kiss a stranger for $100, and has her friend Tommy film the dare for her. She kisses the stranger, prepares to leave when the next dare has her riding into the city with the stranger, who we later learn is named Ian. Ian and Vee head into the city where they’re both dared to try on expensive clothing. When they go back to their dressing rooms, all of their street clothes and wallets are gone. They race out of the store, nearly naked, and find that the watchers bought them clothes to wear.
Vee and Ian head to get pizza while Sydney watches them at a party. She gets jealous of Vee’s budding popularity and is dared to conjure her fear of heights by walking across a ladder on a building top. She fails to complete her dare and is forced to quit the game. Ian and Vee shows up at the party and Sydney and Vee get in a big fight, Vee bringing up the fact that she’s only lived in Sydney’s shadow and that Sydney should be proud of her for being outgoing. Vee then completes the ladder dare just to show that she is a new person, but discovers that Ian was dared to set up the fight.
The movie goes on with more dares, and a few plot twists tied in as well.
The movie overall was extremely good, and I give it four out of five stars. The ending wasn’t the best, but it tied up well.
