Do You Have the Nerve?

Can you imagine Jumanji and Hunger Games put together? That's what this is.

Do You Have the Nerve?

“Nerve” is a movie that was released this summer. It’s based on the book “Nerve” written by Jeanne Ryan. I might as well go ahead and say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had to go and see it twice.

In the game known as Nerve, you have the choice to be a watcher or a player. Obviously, the watchers watch the players as they go through with the game to determine if they have the nerve. The watchers also have control of what the players are assigned to do. The players have to complete dares within a short amount of time. For each dare completed, the players earn money that is transferred into their bank accounts. As the game goes on, the amount of money that can be won increases. The level of danger increases as well.

Set in New York around the Staten Island area, Nerve is about a quiet, shy girl named Vee, played by Emma Roberts, who is preparing for college. After some encouragement to be more daring from her friend, Vee decides to sign up to play Nerve. While completing her first dare, Vee teams up with a guy by the name of Ian, played by Dave Franco. They go on a night-long adventure around New York completing dares and having fun. Eventually, truths start to unfold. Friendships get shaken. It quickly turns into a race for survival for Vee and Ian. This may seem like a light description, and it is because I don’t want to spoil anything. Go see it!

The cast for the film was great. Emma Roberts has been in the “American Horror Story” series, as well as “We’re the Millers” and “Scream 4.” Dave Franco has been in “21 Jump Street,” “Neighbors” and “Unfinished Business.” Samira Wiley is known for her role as Poussey from the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.” Juliette Lewis was in the movie “Enough” with Jennifer Lopez, as well as the series “The Facts of Life” and the film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Marc John Jeffries is best known for his roles in the films “Losing Isaiah,” “The Haunted Mansion” and “Notorious.” Colson Baker, also known as Machine Gun Kelly and MGK, is also in this movie. He can be seen in other films such as “Viral” and “Beyond the Lights,” in addition to the Showtime series “Roadies.” In addition to being an actor, he is also a rapper. He has two albums out titled “Lace Up” and “General Admission.” I also highly recommend those albums and the mixtapes.

As a person who rarely buys new movies, I plan on adding this film to my film collection as soon as possible. In addition to the movie itself, I also have to give the soundtrack a thumbs up. If you like the idea of racing against time, go see it. If you like teamwork, go see it. If you like adrenaline, go see it. If you like anarchy, well I think you know what to do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
