On July 16th, two friends and I waited in line for five hours in front of Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio, to ensure we would be front row at the Neon Trees concert happening that night. When my friends convinced me last minute to attend, I knew the day would entail hours of waiting in a line, guzzling down water to stay hydrated, and plenty of Chipotle bathroom trips (it's right by the venue). I'd done it all a year before on my birthday. After hours of waiting, I wanted nothing more then to go home and curl in a ball under my covers. Then Tyler Glenn hit the stage, and all those hours of waiting seemed to melt away.
Doc-wearing, toe-dancing, fan-loving, lead singer of Neon Trees, Tyler Glenn knows how to put on a good show. And all the fans out there are elated that Glenn loves to preform. Recently, Neon Trees has been travelling across the United States preforming at select locations for their fans. New album? Nope; they literally went on tour because they were bored and love their fans. In fact, the drummer, Elaine Bradley, is super pregnant and still preforming. If that's not dedication, then I don't know what is. The whole band is solely in this because they love what they do: "It's because of you guys, it really is," Glenn stated in the midst of his set. "The record labels aren't paying us too much money. So thank you so much for always singing along and always being here for us. It means so much."
When the band hits the stage, you can see the passion they are pouring into their performance. Every time I see them in concert, they seem more passionate than the last time. When the crowd screams, Glenn's face lights up like fireworks on the fourth of July. There is nothing but pure joy and a genuine, thankful sparkle in his eyes. It's refreshing to see an artist put so much of himself into his craft and then be rewarded by hundreds of fans screaming his name.
Not to mention, the boy knows how to dance. Whether he is twirling and kicking his legs in the air or dancing on the tips of his toes, Glenn is giving the crowd everything he has. I honestly have no idea how he can frolic around the stage for an entire show and still deliver killer vocals. It will probably always be a mystery to me.
One thing that isn't a mystery, though, is why everyone loves Neon Trees, and why you should love them too. Their summer tour is coming to a close, but if you ever have the chance to see them preform live, then you should 100 percent jump at the chance. No matter if you're in the front waiting for him to crowd surf, which he often does, or jumping to look over people in the back, you'll leave his show feeling like you witnessed something special.
