A Nazi Is Running For Congress In Illinois, Yes, You Read That Right

The 2018 midterms are in full swing. Even though the official election isn't until November, races for Congress and governor are already underway, with primaries set to begin next month. These primaries will weed out the field of potential candidates, whittling it down to just two, presumably one nominee each from the Democratic and Republican parties.

These are the two that will square off in the November elections. While many of these elections are not noteworthy, or even already decided (some incumbent congressman run unopposed), there is a local race in Illinois, my home state, that has generated statewide, and even national attention.

Republican Arthur Jones is currently running to become the representative of Illinois' 3rd Congressional District, an hour drive from my home, and he is currently unopposed by any other members of his party. If all stays as is, his name will be the one of two on the ballot for members of the 3rd district this November.

Typically, this would not be a large story, as events such as these are very common in district elections, but here's the rub: Arthur Jones is a Nazi. I'm not talking about the way that people call Trump Hitler, either; this guy is an actual, literal, honest-to-God nazi.

Jones holds many views that are in line with the Republican party; he is anti-Obamacare, pro-life, and anti-gay. He also opposes sanctuary cities, amnesty for undocumented immigrants, supports religious freedom, and advocates making English the national language. However, Jones' beliefs certainly get more...let's call it radical.

If you don't believe me, just go to his website and see for yourself, or don't because I already did, and I can't in good conscience send anyone in that direction. Jones is a former leader of the American Nazi Party. His own website shows pictures of him speaking at pro-Trump and Neo-nazi events, some of which were the same ones, but I digress. Apart from this, he calls Barack Obama a communist, calls the Confederate flag a symbol of "White pride and white resistance" as well as "the flag of a White counter-revolution". He also calls the LGBTQ+ pride flag "an attack on traditional Christian morality".

The real smoking gun here, however, is his views on the holocaust.

Jones has called the murder of six million Jews "the biggest blackest lie ever told", and "an international extortion racket".

Yep, he's a holocaust denier. In fact, Jones believes that the holocaust is a lie to perpetuate "the silence and submissiveness to Zionism and Communism". He even calls Elie Wiesel, a famous holocaust survivor whose memoir is a best seller, "a skillful liar whose lies like those of dozens of other "holocaust survivors" has made him famous and wealthy."

Jones doesn't leave other races out of the fun, either; he calls the flag of the Republic of New Africa a symbol that "blood must be shed to take land in the south away from white people...for the establishment of a new nation for the negro race", and has called Israel's flag "a flag that dishonors our nation because of our nation's total subservience to it before the world."

I would hope that something like this doesn't have to be said, but in today's political climate, you can never be too sure, so please don't vote for the Nazi. I feel like this should be a given, but just in case you're on the fence, don't do it! Arthur Jones and men like him are the complete antithesis of America and what it stands for.

Our country is a place where people of all creeds and nationalities and ethnicities can live together in peace, a melting pot, and the superiority of any one race or religion has no place in our society.

We are a nation that believes all men are created equal, that stands up to outdated, bigoted ideologies such as this one. Illinois may as well be a bankrupt, piece of garbage state, but it's my piece of garbage, and I won't stand for pieces of filth like Jones giving a bad name to my garbage!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
