Nature can be our best friend. We can find peace walking through the woods, fishing on the ocean, climbing the heights of a mountain, or simply looking at the stars. Most people enjoy a peaceful walk by themselves in order to clear their head, such as myself.
Today many people fear nature, or are disgusted by it. We don't want to get our feet dirty or get covered in leaves. We fear the creatures that make nature such a beautiful, lovely yet peaceful place. We fear the bees that help make our food thrive, or the porcupine that's looking for food for her babies, or the garden snake that's finding a home in the woods.
We should appreciate the unkempt forests and woods while they last. I fear a day where there will be no trees and streams that were the home for so many animals. For nature can be a second home for us. A place to walk in where the tribulations of society take a huge toll. The forest is a landscape where I can be one with the quiet surroundings and forget about what stresses me everyday.
I believe being in the wild can be very soothing, but the effect it can have on someone can change dramatically. Human beings are social creatures and we rely on others in our happiest of times and the darkest of hours. In the Wilderness we can only rely on ourselves and our emotions. When our emotions betray us and our darkest hour comes and we only have ourselves to pull us through, even the strongest man or woman will break down. Nature can be our best friend but when we try to compete with it, daring it to challenge us, we may not be able to pull through with all our emotions and strength attached.
