Curly Hair Problems

You can never have two good hair days in a row.

1. The frizz is too much.

We can simply not just 'hang out' outside for fun, do you understand the disappointment we get when we spent all night straightening our hair just to wake up and realize the humidity level is too much for our hair?

2. Weather changes.

Hot? Humidity and frizz.

Spring? Rain and our straightened hair will then be a weird mix of curls, frizz, and straightened hair.

Wind? We will practically be eating our curls all day.

3. Hair ties and bobby pins.

They either break or get lost in our hair so we end up putting them on the shopping list every week

4. We can't brush it.

People are always, always, giving us weird looks and commenting on how we don't brush our hair. We don't want our hair looking like a poodle everyday!

5. People curl their hair and hashtag #curlyhairdontcare or #curlsfordays.

We know those aren't natural curls!

6. Deciding to shower in the morning or at night.

If we shower in the morning the curls will probably still be wet when we get to school and we don't have time to style it or we could shower at night and then risk to possibility of waking up with dead curls.

7. The hair gets everywhere.

I shed like a freakin' dog 24/7 and people always comment on it. Trust me, I wish it would stop too.

8. People tell you they like you with straight hair more.

This one actually gets to me, like, I will not spend two hours a night to straighten my hair because you like it more that way. Saying my hair looks better straight is an insult.

9. Your hair is 10x longer when you straighten it

No, I don't have extensions. Then when you wash it and go into school... "OMG I love the new hair cut!" *laughs at stupidity*

10. We straighten our hair to impress people.

I will not even try to attempt straightening my hair when there isn't a big event going on or a cute boy.

11. You have a natural afro.

I call my hair a 'fro because it just gets so big, it's ridiculous, it "can't be tamed."

12. One drop of conditioner doesn't work.

I go through conditioner like it's nothing, screw one drop, give me 50 drops!

13. Time.

It takes too long to straighten it and some days I don't have the patience or the strength to keep working at it.

14. No brush or blow dryer.

I own neither; there is no need. I'd rather spend my money on products to keep my hair in place all day.

15. You always wanted straight hair.

I hate to admit that I ever wanted straight hair...

16. ...But now you can't imagine anything but your curls!

I love them so much, they are my favorite part of me. They can be hard to maintain and they do not always corporate (they hardly ever do), but they are natural and they are beautiful.

They give my hair more volume than anything out of a can ever could, they give me more variation than any curling iron ever could, and they give me uniqueness. Anyways, I could always straighten my hair if I wanted..

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
