My Week At Daytona Beach

Here is the inside scoop of my beach week.

My Week At Daytona Beach
Madeline Otten

This week, I had the opportunity to take a beach vacation with my entire family, which includes my parents and my two older brothers, one who just celebrated his one year anniversary at his job and the other just graduated the College of William and Mary. I myself would call me a beach bum (just ask any of my friends). I could spend all day every day at the beach if I could, but sadly home cannot provide the Atlantic breeze and white caps rolling. But I thought I would take you, my readers, on my week adventure in Daytona Beach, Florida and give you the inside scoop of what happened.

Saturday, May 21: The family left at four in the morning and took on the tour hour plus drive. I myself drove through parts of South Carolina and all of Georgia, and finally switched drivers once we hit the sunshine state. We arrive around four in the afternoon and did a little bit of food shopping.

Sunday, May 22: Went to church early that day so we could hit the beach directly after. The water was so refreshing and such a nice temperature for May, taken into account that we are in Florida. I also, for the first time, found a live starfish for the first time.

Monday, May 23: Another day at the beach for some relaxation and went for an afternoon bike ride with my mom on the beach.

Tuesday, May 24: Hit up Orlando's Universal Studious and Island of Adventure to not only experience those parks, but also Harry Potter World. A lot has changed since the last time I was there, which was when I was around six. For one, I now ride roller coasters, and times have changed, new movies come out which help create attractions. Though in Harry Potter World, the Butterbeer was delicious, pretty sure my brother Brendan and I had around.. three.

Wednesday, May 25: Since we had just spend the entire day at Universal, we again, hit the beach for relaxing and sun soaking.

Thursday, May 26: Today, we went out for dinner, at the Rooftop, located on top of Joe's Crab Shack, which was an hour and a half wait by the time we got there. And instead of driving, we walked, which it totaled five miles.

Friday, May 27: Decided to stay inside today because of being burnt from the sun from the past couple of days. We went and saw X-Men Apocalypse, which I totally recommend, and then after, we came back for some board games and sausage dip.

Saturday, May 28: Since today was our last day, we hit the beach again. I was up and ready by eight in the morning, while my parents went for an early morning bike ride and my brothers slept in. The wind was strong and had sand blowing basically all over us, but it was still enjoyable.

Sunday, May 29: Went to mass early in the morning and then hit the road. The long drive was not as bad since I watched a couple movies on my laptop, but it was a great vacation with great people.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
