My Top 5 Favorite Movies

The Martian - Sci-Fi/Action

  1. It's smart, it's funny, it's beautifully made, It's Matt Damon. Damon embodies his character of Mark Watney, who is an undeniable smart-ass genius. This movie also follows the novel incredibly well. I'd recommend this movie to anyone who's a Matt Damon and/or Space fanatic. And I'm not going to lie, I've read the book and watched the movie about 7 times now :) Definitely a 10/10 movie

Mulan - Animation/Family

Okay I know The Martian to Mulan is a big jump but it's deserving to be here. There's one point in my life, I watched this movie once a week for months...it was last year. This Disney Soundtrack is one of the best they have made, don't tell me you don't sing along to I'll Make a Man Out of You. This movie also shows bravery and sacrifice and gives Asian representation. Good Work Disney, I love it.

Moana - Animation/Family

Another Disney movie, yes. But Moana is a beautiful movie. Everytime I watch it, I just feel like summertime and warmth and happiness. The relationship Moana has with her grandma is something that I have with mine. This Disney movie also has an amazing soundtrack. I even sang How Far I'll Go in a Moana costume for a pageant and I actually ended up willing that pageant. Moana helped me become a queen and I hope that it continues to help more girls feel and be queens.

A Haunted House - Comedy/HorrorĀ

Okay Disney to Marlon Wayans probably wasn't what you were expecting but hear me out, this movie is comedic. Highly inappropriate but definitely hilarious. This movie is a parody of Paranormal Activity so if scary movies aren't your thing, a Haunted House is where it's at. It's basically the same story line but not scary. But if you watch it, be prepared for some pretty vulgar stuff but it just makes the movie 10 times funnier this way.

Romeo and Juliet - Romance/Drama

  1. So Romeo and Juliet is my favorite Shakespeare piece and the only thing that would make it better is seeing 90's Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo... Oh wait, in this movie, He is! If you've ever read a Romeo and Juliet and then analyzed it, it'll be easier to understand but if not, you'll just really have to pay attention to what's going on to get the big picture of the movie. The movie is based on modern (80's-90's) times but everything is spoken straight from the Shakespearean language so it's an incredible movie and Romeo/Leonardo DiCaprio is a stud in this movie.

Since we've just been hanging out in quarantine, go ahead and watch a few of these, some will make you laugh, some will make you cry and the others will empower you to be brave. Movies can be a great escape.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast ā€œBirthdayā€ on anyoneā€™s birthday. I knew all of the words to ā€œBack In The U.S.S.Rā€ by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. Iā€™m not someone to ā€œfangirlā€ but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
