If you’ve ever been a student, you understand that it’s difficult to give your undivided attention in class, especially when it is right before lunch. I get the struggle. You want to pay attention, but your mind is anywhere but the present. It happens to the best of us. So here I have an example of what goes through my mind during class.
1. OK, I can do this. It’s only an hour and 15 minutes.
2. Oh yeah, I’m so good at taking notes. Look at this page full of knowledge.
3. My hand hurts.
4. I’m hungry.
5. When’s lunch?
6. Oh my gosh, it’s only been six minutes.
7. How has it only been six minutes?
8. OK, focus. If I just focus, then time will go by faster!
9. I can’t focus. This is so boring.
10. How long can he go on about the Oedipus complex?
11. We’ve been talking about this for three days.
12. 10 minutes! How did that happen?
13. OK, I’m taking notes again. Paying attention, being studious.
14. I am going to die in here.
15. What will I have for lunch?
16. I had a potato yesterday, so maybe Chick Fil A?
17. I could really go for a chicken sandwich.
18. Great, now all I can think about is a chicken sandwich.
19. Still an hour left.
20. My body, weak, yearns for the taste of waffle fries.
21. I should not have stayed up so late last night.
22. But binge-watching "Bob’s Burgers" was so worth it.
23. That family gets into some crazy situations.
24. Tina is my spirit animal.
25. Who am I kidding? She’s everyone’s spirit animal.
26. 45 minutes! I can do this!
27. Wait, I haven’t been paying attention.
28. Has anyone been paying attention?
29. Well, of course he has. Ugh. He’s such a good student.
30. Ah, OK, but Kelsey is drawing cats again, so I’m not alone here.
31. She never lets me down. She’s a good egg.
32. Coming to this class was a waste of time. I could be sleeping right now.
33. Wait, no. That’s not the right attitude! I’m learning! I am becoming a scholar.
34. A scholar who is very hungry and tired.
35. 30 minutes. Time is moving fast now. Someone is looking out for me.
36. Should I try to take notes again?
37. Does he know that I haven’t been paying attention? My apologies, professor.
38. It’s not your fault that this class is boring and required.
39. OK, I’m almost out of here. I can smell Chick Fil A! It’s calling to me!
40. 15 minutes and I’m gone! You’ll never see me again! Until Thursday.
41. You keep talking. I’m just going to fantasize about my lunch.
42. 12:45? For real? Freedom!
43. I'm coming, sandwich! See you later, class. Until next time.
