My Sweet Child

A Letter From God To You

40
My Sweet Child

My Sweet Child,

I see the way you look at yourself and I hear the immediate negative thought that comes to your head when your reflection stares back at you. I wish you would know how much my heart breaks to see you this way- you are so beautiful to me. More beautiful than the thousands of stars, more beautiful than the deepest of blue that you find in the oceans and more beautiful than any precious stone I have ever created.

I notice the way you look at the girl next door and the way you wish to be like her- to have her life. "If only" you think to yourself. I wish you would know how uniquely I created you. Right down to your DNA. I made you so special. You are intricately designed- I sewed you together with the best fabric and made you of the most special material I could find. I made you different and that's what makes you so precious.

My Sweet Child,

I hear the way you cry at night, wondering when life will get better and my heart breaks to think that I'm not enough for you. I hear you scramble to find ways to rid yourself of 'loneliness' and my heart aches to see you this way. My sweet Child, I'm right beside you- I always have been. I made the beautiful trees and the vast skies, to remind you of my presence and I'm not going anywhere. I just wish you would see me.

I see you hide under your covers, afraid of what the world has to hold. You think you have to pretend to be someone you're not, in order to fit in, but my sweet child, you were built strong- stronger than a mountain, stronger than roots that hold giant trees to the ground. You can overcome anything- because you've got me rooting for you. I know you can do it! I believe in you!

My Sweet Child,

I hear your heart beat in anxiety about the things to come and I hear your frustration about what a crazy world you live in. You were born a fighter- you fight for justice, for equality, for the gospel- my love letter to you. You are a fighter because I created you to be.

"Am I enough?" I hear your whispers. You are more than enough. You are my child- you are MINE. I sprinkled the stars in the sky with just a word, but when I created you, I breathed into you- I brought you life- for a reason you may not yet understand. My sweet child, Do Not Give Up. I have plans for you that are greater than any that you can think of. All I need you to do is look to me. Look at me. Just at me and nothing else.

My Sweet Child,

I know that at times you find it difficult to love yourself or to believe that anyone ever has or will, but my child, my scars speak a different story- I gave up my life so you could have yours, because I love you so much. My sweet child, forgive yourself, because I forgave you on that cross. Give yourself another chance, to keep going at it. You'll find your way- I've got your back. I promise.

My Sweet Child, I Love You.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
