I may not be very good at math but I know the probability of finding "your person" is very low, everyone has one, though; someone out there with a soul that matches yours is waiting on you. It may take years to find them. You may go through the first year of college and then one day, they appear.
My person is Lindsey. I call her my "Sister of the Moon," just like the Stevie Nicks song. Which is perfect since I'm named Stevie and she is named Lindsey. Any Fleetwood Mac fans getting my reference? (awkward silence). Anyways, Lindsey and I have a pretty crazy friendship. Here's the things best friends have to face on a daily basis.
1. You will cry together.
Being in college only causes stress and ulcers. Having a best friend makes all the difference. Sometimes you just have to break down. If this means the bathroom of a bar, well I guess that's the place.
2. Food is communal.
Lindsey and I stockpiled snacks when we lived in the dorm that were for emergency use only. This means a Monday night when the dining halls are closed and we are too lazy to go out.
3. Every night gets turned into party night.
We don't always get invited to the cool parties. Luckily when you have a best friend you can just make your own party. Sometimes making your own party involves breaking out a "Tool" album, a bucket of stale pretzel sticks, and making English tea. As long as you have a best friend any night is a party night.
4. Shopping trips are never ending.
Girls will shop till their death. Going shopping with a best friend will take hours because you will look at everything and makes joke about what you see. By the end you will be shaking your heads saying, "Dude, we have to stop spending money."
5. Getting ready to go out is an all day event.
It takes hours to do makeup and hair before Lindsey and I go out. We have to set a specific mood by listening to albums. Usually it takes us about two "Led Zeppelin" albums to get ready. Then we have to listen to "Eazy-E" before we leave.
6. Your closet or mine.
There is a dress that Lindsey bought that somehow ended up in my closet. We pass this dress around and call it the "sacred dress." Lindsey is actually wearing it in the cover photo. Having a best friend means sharing clothes.
7. You'll never face anything alone.
With someone by your side you will never face anything alone. If this means failing a class, or ending a relationship. There is always someone by your side. This is the main benefit of having someone in your life. This world is a scary place to be alone in.
