I don’t remember much. After all, I was only five years old. I remember getting checked out of school early, which I thought was so cool. I remember the hospital room. Everyone was so excited, as was I. I was getting a baby sister, and in kindergarten that was just about the coolest thing ever.
She came out, and she was so little. I remember she was purple for a little bit, which really freaked me out. I was so excited about my new little sister, but I had no idea the impact she would have on me later in life.
For a while, I was excited, but then it kicked in that she was not going anywhere. My selfish 5-year-old self was not a big fan of all the attention she got or the matching dresses I was now expected to wear. Those first few years, I did not have a lot to do with her, but then eventually things started to change. She became my flyer and my dress up doll. She was my mini me. I say was because even though we are still a lot alike, she is very much her own person. I liked that she was always there to play with. She was and still is very entertaining. Slowly but surely, she became my best friend.
The older we have gotten, the closer we have become. We have a lot in common. We watch the same shows and like the same music. We both loved Hannah Montana and Disney music. Now it is more like "Grey's Anatomy" and Thomas Rhett. We push each other to try new things and have new experiences. We have the same blue eyes and long, blond hair. A lot of people say we act the same way, but I do not know about that. I see it sometimes, but then other times I think we are completely different.
For forever I knew my sister was always in the bedroom next to me, but since starting college I have started to cherish the time I get to spend with her even more. Any chance we get we go out to eat or shopping or to the movies or something, I love spending time with her. We have our secrets, things only to be shared between sisters. We can talk fluently in "Friends" quotes. We have both seen the show too many times to count. We can practically read each other’s minds. I have definitely learned that sisters make the best friends.
I have loved watching her grow up to be an awesome person. She is such a strong and courageous girl. She is a great leader and so much fun to be around. I have learned so much about life from her. I am a better person because of her. She makes no apologies for the person she is. She lives life to the fullest. She cares tremendously for others. She has a great sense of style. She rocks at doing hair, which is really convenient for me. She is a very caring person. She is very talented. She is good at almost everything she does. She is beautiful, both inside and out.
We have a great relationship, but we still argue like sisters do. We fight and disagree, but it never lasts long. One minute we are arguing, but then just a little while later we are giving each other advice about what to wear. There is no way to put into words how much I appreciate my sister. I am so thankful for her. I cannot wait to see all she accomplishes, and the amazing woman she becomes.
