My Room Isn't Messy... I Just Have A Creative Mind

It's not my fault i'm more ~creative~ than you...

My Room Isn't Messy... I Just Have A Creative Mind
Robert Wright For The New York Times

This may come as a surprise to many people, but I TRULY believe my room is NOT messy. I wouldn’t consider myself a messy person (okay, I’m not a clean freak either)…but hear me out. My room isn’t messy, I just have A LOT of stuff, and a creative way of organizing it.

I’ve always been a collector. I like to gather things, and I have trouble separating from my beloved belongings. I know what you’re probably thinking: ‘wow, is this an article about hoarders?’ but it’s not, listen.

Everything I own has a place and a meaning. Every now and then I deep clean and get rid of the things I no longer want, but I keep things in specific places because they have meaning and help me express myself.

For example, the clothes in the pile on the floor. Those are there because I was picking out an outfit! Clothes are so meaningful and help me express myself: so of course, I needed the perfect combination. I swear, I’ll eventually get around to folding the rest and putting them away! Whats more important is that I got to express myself.

My mom likes to say to me: ‘A messy room reflects a messy mind.’ And I sure do agree! When I feel like I need to regain control of my life, I 100% will deep clean my room and reorganize everything, but what you think is messy probably isn’t the same as what I think. Sorry, I'm just more 'creative'than most.

Like I said, everything has a place. You may view my overflowing desk as a disorganized clutter, but I see it as my favorite collection of books, candles, trinkets and makeup! Having my things in a place where I can easily find them makes me feel better – so really, does that make it a mess?! These things define me, and make up who I am - of course, I want them on display!

Really, my 'mess' helps everyone know me better.

So, what I’m trying to say, is: don’t blame ‘messy’ girls for having a messy mind. What you might think is chaos is actually our form of organization! (Minus the shoes everywhere…those I’m just way too lazy to put away. Sorry, Mom!)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
