My Philosophy On Regrets

Every opportunity and every decision leads you to another door on the journey called life.

My Philosophy On Regrets
Kaysie Burnside

Regrets, I'm sure we could all name a few. The night you drank a little too much not keeping in mind of your obligations at 7 a.m. the next day. The things you said out of anger in a fight that now seems so pointless. Driving a tad over the speed limit right past that police officer hiding behind that building just waiting to give you a ticket. After all of these moments you probably sat and thought of all the things you could have done to prevent these events from happening.

Well, I'm here to tell you I'm happy you got that hangover, said the things you said, and had to pay that speeding ticket. Right now you're probably thinking 'she's one of those people who laugh a little too hard at the guys flipping their bikes and falling off ladders when watching America's Funniest Home Videos.' Which is true I do find those hilarious but I'm not evil and I don't enjoy other's pain. I am happy that those things happened because without them you wouldn't be the person you are at this exact moment.

I don't have any regrets, or at least I try not to. Every single decision I've made throughout my life has brought me to this moment writing this article in Shipman Library. Without them, I could be anywhere: at a different college, not at college at all or halfway across the world. Who knows the person I'd be without the things I've done that others maybe shook their heads at. I'm not saying they were good decisions by any means. There are plenty of things I'm sorry for the pain they caused but I'm not sorry that they happened.

It's crazy to think that if I had made one different decision I could possibly not know the people I do now. I met one of the best friends I'll ever have solely because I got a job at a McDonald's forty minutes from my house. The miles on my car and the gas money coming out of my check definitely made me think about whether or not it was the right choice but if I hadn't taken that job I'd never have met him or his family who have quickly become family to me as well. Without meeting him I'd never have made half of the choices that led me to be the independent person I am now and I wouldn't know such an inspiring individual.

Choosing to go on a whim and try out for a play gave me a majority of the friends that I have now. Every fight we've had has taught me something new about myself, them and how to be a better human being. We've been taught to regret things that seemingly had a negative outcome in the present but what about the future? That's what really matters and let me tell you the future is bright and it is beautiful. So say thank you to your "mistakes" and hold your head high. Life is good and I am thankful.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
