Can I start by saying, Mom and Dad, I'm so proud of you both? You are both two of the strongest people I know and I look up to you in every way possible. It takes two courageous people to go through something like a divorce, and you did it because you knew in the end that you both would be happier, but also so would your children. I couldn't imagine being any happier than I am today and I do believe your divorce is one of the biggest reasons why.
Mom. Dad. Your love ran out, I understand that. But your love for me and Alex never did and that was always your main focus, taking care of us and loving us. You were both single parents for some time and as I grow older, I realize more and more how tough that must have been. But you did it and you made it look so easy. Even though the divorce happened when I was very young, I wish I could have been there for you both more than I was. I can't imagine going through a divorce and taking care of a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old. But you did it, and your strength makes me who I am today.
Another great thing your divorce brought me was two more amazing parents. I couldn't imagine my life without my step dad and step mom. Two more shoulders to cry on. Two more humans to love. Two more people to pick me up when I'm falling down. Having four parents is like a dream come true. But besides my happiness, they make you happy and that's what matters most. You both found your other half, and I can't thank you more for bringing them into my life.
So thanks, Mom and Dad. Thanks for getting a divorce. We all know everything happens for a reason, so thank you for not fighting it. Even through the constant trips back and forth between each other's house, or constantly deciding who I was going to spend holidays with, thank you.
And don't worry, I still believe in true love. You just taught me that it's okay if it's not who you originally thought it would be. But most importantly, I will never look down upon you for getting a divorce, it only showed me how strong my parents are.
