An Open Letter To My Parents
Samantha Jolly

Dear Mom and Dad,

I know I don't say it enough, but thank you. Thank you for all of the life lessons, gifts, and love you have given me. Without your love and support I would never be where I am today. You always pushed me to do my best in everything I do and never once gave up on me. When something didn't turn out the way I thought it would you always told me that it would be okay and everything would work out for the best. You taught me so much in the short amount of time I have been with you.

All the times I was upset over something as small as a bad hair day, you taught me that there is more to life than that and showed me the amazing things I was overlooking. You showed me that even though I am having a bad day, it could end up being the best day of my life just by a compliment.

You never let me forget that I am always loved. Even when I doubted that no one loved me and felt like I was alone, you always let me know that I was not. You taught me that no matter what you will always be there for me and love me unconditionally, even when I get on your last nerve.

I always feel accepted by you two. You never made me feel like my choices were wrong or that I was making a mistake with what I did. You encourage me to be myself and not let society tell me who to be and what to do. You accept me who for I am and never ask me to change just to please others.

You taught me that it is okay to chase my dreams and to not be afraid of failure. You taught me from day one that I need to go after my dreams and make them come true because no one is going to do it for me; I have to do it myself. You told me not to be afraid of failure because it happens. Not everything will end up the way I thought it would.

Now that I am miles away from you, I miss more than ever the life lessons you taught me. I miss knowing I can go down the hall just to ask a question or your embracing hugs when I am upset. Although I see you every other weekend, I miss you like crazy.

I'm so happy that I have you both to look up to and to guide me through this crazy, hard life. Without you, I would not be where I am today. I would not have the personality I have if you didn't teach me to be how I am. I would not be as motivated as I am if it weren't for you, so thank you.

Thank you for all the intentional and unintentional lessons and memories you gave me. Thank you for the best life I would never have thought possible. Thank you for being you. Thank you for being the best parents in the world. I love you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
